The House

A wardrobe is not made in a season. It grows over a life.

Alter Knabe stands in the old culture of menswear and in tailoring as the book has it: an English line, a proven house cut, worked onto one man. You choose the fabric, the lapel, the buttons. What comes back fits the man, not the size.

The Fit

Close to the body, never tight

No slim fit. No low waistband. The waistband sits at the waist, the shoulder stays natural, the waist is suggested and not pulled in.

A suit that only works standing still is not a suit. You sit in it, walk in it, work in it.

Work

Five days a week. Navy, mid-grey, charcoal. Herringbone, pinstripe, Prince of Wales, houndstooth – patterns that have been right for a hundred years and remain so.
Tweed and flannel for the country
II.

Leisure & Country

Tweed, corduroy, flannel. One jacket for the racecourse, one for Sunday. Room to move, and never a costume.
Evening dress for occasions
III.

Occasions

Gala, ball, wedding. The dinner suit first. Beneath it a three-piece you go on wearing afterwards.

Your measure, your fabric

Measured first, then the house cut follows your posture. After that the specification: lapel, lining, buttons, pockets. Only then is it made – and it comes back once more for a fitting.
